Would putting to much oil in a motorcycle engine do alot of damage?

My friend over filled the oil by a quart and the motor shut off and it won't start back. Should we drain the oil and start over? Or would to much oil cause the engine to lock up? Any help would be nice. Would appreciate some serious answers please. Thank you.Would putting to much oil in a motorcycle engine do alot of damage?
You need to drain the excess oil and get it to the proper level immediately. Overfilling your engine oil results in excessive internal air pressures which causes gaskets and seals to fail. Another side-effect of overfilling is oil aeration which causes it to foam up inside the crank case. Once this happens, the oil loses it's ability to properly lubricate the internal components and will eventually lead to seizing.Would putting to much oil in a motorcycle engine do alot of damage?
Ok so you've over filled your oil! This situation can cause problems such as:- clutch slip, excess engine pressures, blown seals, and so on.

Your problem sounds like too much oil and pressure excess, whats happened (at a guess) the oil has filled past the rings and as a consequence the motor although going for a little time has stopped due to the spark plug becoming fouled and the excess engine pressure slowing the motor's combustion this combination makes it hard for your motor to run.

I suggest you drain all oil from the engine then refill taking care not to overfill the oil again.

Once this is done take the plugs out of the engine and clean them thoroughly when checking the plugs see if they look wet and black in color (oily) also clean your air filter once clean refit and try to start the engine if it's not successful take the plugs out again and check the condition if they are still oily clean them and use an additive start like ';start ya bastard'; spray into the carburettors and try to start the engine if it fires up it will probably be ok after a bit of a cough and splutter from too much residual oil from your over fill.

Most engines will be ok after a bit of running and it's a lesson well learned to not over fill good luck
For future reference, always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

Over filling the crankcase will not cause any serious damage.

The excess oil can be blown out of the crankcase breather and into the air box.

Oil in the air box can foul the spark plugs.

Drain enough oil to correct the oil level - clean the air box %26amp; air filter - change the spark plugs.
It's hard to generalize because motorcycles are all so different. If the engine shut off, and won't start, something bad happened. I would drain it and start over. Look at the magnet on the drain plug and see if it has a bunch of metal stuck to it. I would also pull the plugs and see if they are oil fouled.
Yes it can and will. You need to, drain the oil and start over.
