When should I change my motorcycle engine Oil?

I have a 2007 Honda Shadow vt1100 and has 998 miles on it got its first maintenance done at 600 miles so i was wonder when i should change the oil etc like as in the next maintenance 1000 miles?? and every 1000 miles after that??When should I change my motorcycle engine Oil?
I change mine at the start of every riding season weather it needs it or not never now what kind of water from condensation or just gunk from sitting over the season is in the bike so why not spend the $25 dollars at the start of the season every year its a good insurance that your bike will last forever. When should I change my motorcycle engine Oil?
You should have a user's manual that will have a recommended interval to change the oil.

If you'd like to extended the drain interval, have better protection, less wear and better fuel economy, AMSOIL is the way to go.

Using the recommended AMSOIL for your Shadow, you can double the factory recommended drain interval.

AMSOIL is more expensive than other oils, but you get much more protection and double the drain interval and the final cost is about 30 percent less than you would pay for two regular oil changes. I own a 2005 Honda Goldwing and change the oil in it every 7,500 miles. It has just under 24,000 miles on it now. The factory recommendation is every 4,000 miles.

Click on this link to find out how other popular oils (both petroleum and synthetics) stack up against AMSOIL:

This link is to the 10W40 oil for your Shadow and is compatible with wet clutches:

Another benefit of using AMSOIL is that synthetics are better at dissipating heat and by using AMSOIL your engine could run as much as 50 degrees cooler.

A cooler running engine will perform better and have less wear.

AMSOIL!

use Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil 10W40

yes, its expensive, but you don't need to change it for 8000 to 12,000 miles, so your saving money by doing less oil changes.

BUT,,,,, The Oil Filter won't last for 8 to 12K miles, change only the oil filter every 3000 to 5000 miles then add enough new Amsoil to the engine to make up what you lost changing just the oil filter.

The way i do it is change the Amsoil every 8000 miles then I change ONLY the filter at 4000 miles.

(the problem is the Amsoil Synthetic will pick up more dirt and fill up the oil filter with contaminates and the oil filter has a limited volume that can hold the contaminates)

Its also very important you use a high quality oil filter such as a Pure 1, Mobil 1, NAPA, Wix, these oil filters have the smallest micron filter media and a large capacity
If you had the maintenance done at 600(which by the way I think is a rip off, hopefully you didn't pay for the valve check), you are good for another 3000, but if you're like me change it out at 2600 just to be safe, it's worth the roughly $25.00(doing it yourself) to be safe about the oil.
use synthetic now while it is young.take parts off and hard wax behind mounted surfaces against corrosion.
