A question about The Widow's Oil , 2 Kings 4:1-7 ?

The Widow's Oil 2 Kings 4:1-7

1 The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, ';Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.';

2 Elisha replied to her, ';How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?';

';Your servant has nothing there at all,'; she said, ';except a little oil.';

3 Elisha said, ';Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.';

5 She left him and afterward shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, ';Bring me another one.';

But he replied, ';There is not a jar left.'; Then the oil stopped flowing.

7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, ';Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.';

What is the main point of this story ?

Does it remind you of the story of the loaves %26amp; fishes ?

Is there any significance in the fact she was to do the pouring of the oil in private ?

You are welcome to quote scriptures in your answers .A question about The Widow's Oil , 2 Kings 4:1-7 ?
The main point to the story is faith. Of course in God to help us when we are in trouble, but also faith and trust in the prophet of God.

I would also have to say that another point to remember is that she was faithful and obedient. She did what the prophet told her to do and was blessed because of it.

I find it interesting though that she didn't know what to do with the oil. It seems like it would be obvious, and maybe it was to her, but to make sure she again went to the prophet Elisha and asked him what should be done with the oil.

It was then, after the trial of her faith that Elisha gave her the answer. The same applies to us in our lives. As we learn to trust in the Lord and to ask him for help then listen and follow what he directs us to do, we are blessed and receive greater spiritual strength and determination to do his will.A question about The Widow's Oil , 2 Kings 4:1-7 ?
Yes they discovered oil in the ground floor.
She had as much as she needed, same as the bread from Heaven, same as the Eucharist, God promised to take care of the widow and orphan, we see here he does.

Oil represents the Holy Spirit which can flow freely into the vessel that is the person of faith.

Christ when he comes in the Eucharist enters each one of us privately where we are alone with him. He tells us to go into our closet to pray(heart).

Just thoughts, i never really put much thought into it before....
An impoverished widow of one of the godly prophets was in danger of losing her son to slavery because of unpaid debts. She was miraculously supplied with oil, the only limit being the number of vessels she could borrow to receive it. By selling the oil she was able to pay her debts and support her family. This event illustrates grace for the debtor, enough to meet her needs and to provide for future sustenance. God's grace to needy sinners sets us free form debt and slavery and provides all we need for a new life.
According to Aryeh Kaplan, [13] cannabis was an ingredient in the Holy anointing oil mentioned in various sacred Hebrew texts. The herb of interest is most commonly known as kaneh-bosem (קְנֵה-בֹשֶׂם; the singular form of which would be kaneh-bos[14]) which is mentioned several times in the Old Testament as a bartering material, incense, and an ingredient in Holy anointing oil used by the high priest of the temple.

The event recorded demonstrates that God will provide for us if we have the faith / courage to follow His commands implicitly without wavering.

No matter how unlikely it may seem to you and I that anything will become of the instruction.

It does not remind me of the story of the loaves %26amp; fishes.

But it does remind me of the events found in 2 Kings 5 where Naaman was instructed to do something unusual.

Oil pouring in private - I think only indicates that the woman was not to make public what God was doing for her.
miracles are easy for God to do... and they are many!

with our lack of faith... sometimes we doubt that miracles are real...

but then we forget to look in a mirror.

we place conditions on the LORD... and we refuse to be grateful for His many blessings... the good and bad alike.

full surrender to God is tantamount to seeing the miracles in our own lives... oh so i believe. i further believe that when we doubt the LORD, we are blinded to His many Graces and we can't see at all...

we are left floundering in darkness.

holy ground (Exodus 3:5) Meta. Substance in its spiritual wholeness; that is, the idea of substance in the Divine Mind. When man approaches this he must first remove from his understanding all limited thoughts of the Absolute - ';Put off thy shoes from off thy feet.';

(from Metaphysical Bible Dictionary- Unity)

the point of the story is to have faith in God... in all things... and it is He who will guide us to the Truth. on our own... we sell ourselves into slavery... doubt, fear, confusion, indecision and etc...

';But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.'; (Galatians 5:22)

peace and warmest of wishes for a speedy recovery...
Friend ,

This story is one of faith and obedience,and the law of increase.

She did exactly as the prophet told her ,and she was rewarded according to her faith.

This is the basis of christianity ,and many similar examples are found throughout the bible ,especially in the teachings of the lord Jesus Christ.

remember when the tax collector asked if Jesus paid tribute [tax] that was outstanding ,and Jesus told Peter to go fishing and the first fish would contain a coin to pay the tax ,but not just for Christ but for Peter also.

God bless.
